Animation Cycle-Red Riding Hood Skipping Through the Forest
This is my character skipping but she's in mid-motion: being in the air where she lifts her feet off the ground and is in the air and ready to land within a few seconds. Her position starts from the ground and then I moved her up to give the illusion that she is jumping and her basket is behind her because it is swinging.
This is the setting of my background. I used the same shapes for the tree trunks and the tree boughs so there would be uniformity and also to overlap them to create depth. There is a layer of shadow near the trees which I reduced the opacity to create a dark background and to make it seem to recede from the horizon point. The trees in the front are brighter since it is in the foreground. There is the last layer which is just a black background to make the forest seem dark and not as emphasized.
The character is skipping about and is in the foreground. She seems to be slow and it isn't continous movement which I tried to fix with the ease. My favourite moment is when she is jumping because she is high up in the air and when she lands I made her fall forward so I moved her to the right when she lands. The hardest feature was making her facial features to make sure it is the right perspective. Once I created the character in the first motion, then I would duplicate parts of the clothing and facial features and either rotate it to make it consistent.
The basket was difficult at first because I had to make sure that the strokes were angled properly or even criss-crossed to create a crosshatching style. The shading parts were just a deeper red and to distinguish the left and right side. The most difficult part was her facial features which was her eyes and nose. I realized after that the nose was mostly shadow so I would make her nose more of a shape and also her eyes were better to be rounded. The reason is that the pupil and the shape of the eye was more consistent and clean than making it almond shaped.
